Moab is always a fantastic place to visit, with each season highlighting a different perspective, whether it's the flowers of spring, wildlife of summer, changing leaves of fall or stark beauty of winter.
The Moab weather forecast has the regularity of a pendulum swing: pleasant, hot, pleasant, cold, pleasant, hot, pleasant, cold, and so on. Each season has unique characteristics that make the area worth visiting anytime of the year.
April receives more precipitation than any other month, so come prepared for thunderstorms, although they tend to be short and very localized. Temperatures are pleasant, with highs ranging in the high sixties to low eighties.
Temperatures can be sweltering, with the Moab weather report often showing highs over 100°F. Physical activity should limited during the heat of the day, and precautions taken to ensure the entire group has enough water. July through September is monsoon season, bringing thunderclouds and flash floods.
September and October see Moab, UT weather returning to the comfortable sixties to eighties. Cottonwoods along the river change to brilliant yellows, with low precipitation. Nights can get quite cool and the mountain peaks can receive snow as early as September.
Winter is a wonderful time to visit, with highs in the thirties and forties, and the parks empty of other visitors. Moab, Utah weather regularly creates hoar frost on the plants. Clear, blue skies are common, with the sun shining down during the short winter days.
Throughout the Year
Layers are essential to enjoying Moab. The days can be hot and the nights cool, with a temperature difference of 50°F or more. Having the ability to layer up or layer down will make the experience more pleasant.
The area is high desert, receiving very little precipitation. The dry air will evaporate moisture more quickly than normal, requiring visitors to drink plenty of water, as well as wear a hat and bring lip moisturizer.
Flash floods and localized thunderstorms are sporadic events, so rain jackets or some from of water protection is recommended. Proper precaution must be observed for flash floods at all times.
