Southern Utah Fishing Options
Anglers headed to Southern Utah, the southeast in particular, will find tons of fisheries to choose from. From the Colorado for catfish and the Green for big rainbows, to the browns in the San Juan or cutthroat in the Dolores, there's lots of decisions to be made. Don't forget Lower Fish Creek and Fish Lake and you'll need more than a long weekend if traveling here.
Species And Seasons
All waters will require a drive to reach, but it will be worth it when you consider waters like the Green fish well year round and offer record-sized trout. Rainbows, browns, cutthroat and catfish dominate the catch in this corner of the U.S. The further you go downriver in these big rivers the more catfish can be found. Late spring through November is best for targeting these waters.
Flies, Lures And Baits
If you are going to target catfish near Moab, stick with worms or cut baits like liver. Lure fishermen will do good with marabou jigs and spinners. Fly anglers will do best in the warmer months with orange and yellow hopper patterns. Consult local fishing regulations to be sure you're offering is allowed. And hire a guide to find the local hot spots.
