Overview

Canyonlands National Park is famous for its mountain biking terrain. Remember to stick to the jeep tracks as single-track riding is not allowed in the park. Due the variety of terrain available in the park, beginners to advanced riders alike will find trials to suit their ability level. Biking is accessible in the park year-round, though spring and fall provide the best weather. If you plan to attempt any multi-day trips, backcountry camping permits are required.

Where to go Mountain Mountain Biking

Most of your riding in Canyonlands will be done in the Island in the Sky district. The Maze has some opportunity for riding, but is logistically difficult as many of the roads are difficult to reach by car (and it would be a long ride in). The Needles district is generally unsuitable due to deep sand and water.

Here a two of the more popular trails in the park:

  • White Rim Road
This epic multi-day ride covers more than 100-miles, and includes more than 6,000 feet of elevation gain. Though the trail is technically easy, the length makes the full 100 mile trip inaccessible to those who aren’t in good shape. For those who have the legs and lungs to cover the distance, this is the perfect way to experience all that diversity of terrain found in Canyonlands.
  • Canyonlands Overlook
This 14 mile ride treats visitors to one of the most breathtaking overlooks of the entire Canyonlands area. Like most of the riding in the park, the route is technically easy, but some extended climbs require you to be in fairly good physical condition.
